His novels, translated into 36 languages, have been adapted for radio, stage and screen, and earned major honours including multiple Crime Writers' Association Dagger Awards, the Edgar Award, and the Deutscher Krimipreis. Rankin is a Fellow of both The Royal Society of Edinburgh and The Royal Society of Literature, and received an OBE for services to literature.
