Due to the severe weather warnings of Storm Floris, this installation will be open from early next week.
Newly installed for continuing use after its original EAF24 installation, Around a Tree is a site for gathering, dialogue, and exchange, created by Colombian foundation Más Arte Más Acción.
The table, which has travelled globally in many forms, invites visitors to pause, reflect, and engage with pressing conversations on the climate crisis. Surrounding a Portuguese Oak sapling, the table is made from a 164-year-old Lebanese Cedar felled in the Garden due to needle blight, embodying climate resilience. Seated around it, visitors connect: with each other, with nature, and with new perspectives.
This year, the table hosts events led by artists, activists, and thinkers, including Espiral da Morte, a performance from UÝRA, a trans-Indigenous performance artist and biologist. These gatherings will explore themes from climate justice to community resilience, offering a space for shared learning.
! Includes references to the climate emergency, intersecting global crises, and the perspectives of Indigenous voices.
