Join creative collaborators Pavel Kolesnikov and Samson Tsoy for a deeply spiritual recital of piano works, ranging from Bach to Messiaen.
Kolesnikov and Tsoy have been lauded for the ‘electrifying intimacy’ of their recitals (The Guardian). They perform a deeply spiritual programme of two-piano works – both miniature and mighty.
Johann Sebastian Bach’s Orgelbüchlein (Little Organ Book), composed in Weimar in the early 18th century, turns Lutheran chorales into intricate, expressive works. This piano duet arrangement reveals their lyrical beauty and layered harmonies anew.
Messiaen shared with Bach a profound religious belief, which influenced all his compositions. His Visions de l’Amen was composed for two pianos in 1943; Messiaen premiered the work with his future wife Yvonne Loriod in occupied Paris. The suite of seven pieces has a captivating power, moving between austere simplicity and sumptuous richness, with moments of quiet reflection and intense energy.
