Yusuke Yamamoto is an internationally recognised silversmith, born in Kanagawa, Japan, in 1979. He studied metalworking at Musashino Art University in Tokyo and trained with master silversmith Hiroshi Suzuki. Yamamoto honed his skills in Britain and became an artist-in-residence at Glasgow School of Art in 2012. The following year, The Scottish Gallery hosted his first solo exhibition. Based in the Llŷn Peninsula in North Wales, the rugged countryside constantly inspires his practice.
Yamamoto sketches designs onto silver and explores movement and pattern through the technique of chasing; a highly skilful process which uses numerous steel punches to produce distinctive surface texture.
